Switch Stance

Objective

Challenge 5 pushes surfers to ride waves in their opposite stance (“switch stance”), testing their adaptability and mastery on the board by requiring control in a less natural position.

Judging Criteria

The judging panel will score each video based on the following criteria, assigning scores out of 10 for each category:

  • Stability and control demonstrated while surfing in switch stance.
  • The surfer's ability to handle the wave smoothly without reverting to their natural stance.
  • Overall style, fluidity, and confidence in the switch stance.

Challenge Rules

  • Surfers must complete the wave riding in their opposite stance (switch stance).
  • The wave will only be validated if ridden entirely in the switch stance, from take-off through to the wave's end.
  • The surfer should show full control and fluidity, with no reversion to their natural stance during the wave.
  • Each registered instructor may submit ONE wave video per challenge.
  • The wave must be surfed in Portugal during the 14-day challenge window.
  • Videos must be posted on the surf school's Instagram page.
  • The post must tag @hurleyportugal_ and @flowtsurfboards and include the hashtag #flowturama
  • Videos must be unedited, with no cuts, music, or sound effects, and can be in horizontal or vertical format.
  • Videos must be posted within the 14-day window following the start of the challenge.
  • Winners will be announced within 3 days after the submission period closes.
